Le 17 octobre 1961, 30 000 algériens manifestent à Paris pour protester pacifiquement contre le couvre-feu auquel eux seuls sont soumis depuis le 5 octobre. Sous l’autorité du préfet, Maurice Papon, la police les réprime sauvagement, tabassant, tuant, jetant dans la Seine des centaines d’entre eux tout en se livrant à des milliers d’arrestations. Au lendemain de ce massacre, OCTOBRE A PARIS est entrepris
clandestinement pour en témoigner. Il est censuré par l’État français jusqu’en 1973, obtenant enfin un
visa d’exploitation suite à la grève de la faim de René Vautier.

On October 17, 1961, 30,000 Algerians took to the streets of Paris to peacefully protest against the curfew imposed exclusively on them since October 5. Under the authority of police prefect Maurice Papon, the police brutally repressed the demonstration, beating and killing people, throwing hundreds of them into the Seine, while carrying out thousands of arrests. In the aftermath of this massacre, OCTOBER IN PARIS was secretly made to bear witness to the events. The film was censored by the French state until 1973, when it finally obtained an exhibition visa following René Vautier’s hunger strike.
